Every word is built from letters, and these letters can be vowels or consonants. Let’s learn how to tell them apart!

Vowels and Consonants

Vowels:
There are 5 vowels in the alphabet: A, E, I, O, U.
Sometimes, Y is a vowel too!

👉 Examples:

  • In the word “cat,” the vowel is A.
  • In the word “dog,” the vowel is O.
  • In the word “fun,” the vowel is U.

Consonants:
All the other letters in the alphabet that are not vowels are called consonants.
There are 21 consonants: B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z.

👉 Examples:

  • In “cat,” the consonants are C and T.
  • In “dog,” the consonants are D and G.
  • In “fun,” the consonants are F and N.
