What is Skip Counting and Number Patterns

What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is a way of counting by skipping certain numbers. It helps us quickly count groups of items and recognize patterns in numbers.

Skip Counting:

  1. Skip Counting by 2s
    • How to do it: Start at 0 and add 2 each time.
    • Example: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, …
  2. Skip Counting by 5s
    • How to do it: Start at 0 and add 5 each time.
    • Example: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, …
  3. Skip Counting by 10s
    • How to do it: Start at 0 and add 10 each time.
    • Example: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, …

Number Patterns:

  1. Increasing Patterns
    • What it is: A sequence of numbers that goes up.
    • Example: 1, 3, 5, 7 (adding 2 each time)
  2. Decreasing Patterns
    • What it is: A sequence of numbers that goes down.
    • Example: 10, 8, 6, 4 (subtracting 2 each time)
