Counting Coins
- How to Count Coins:
- Start with the biggest coin and work your way down.
- Example: If you have 1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 3 pennies:
- 1 quarter = 25 cents
- 2 dimes = 20 cents (10 cents each)
- 3 pennies = 3 cents
- Total:
- First count the quarter: 25 cents.
- Then add the dimes: 25 + 20 = 45 cents.
- Finally add the pennies: 45 + 3 = 48 cents.
Making Change
- What is Making Change?
Making change is when you pay for something and get back extra money. - Example:
If you buy a toy for $4 and pay with a $5 bill:- Change = $5 – $4 = $1
- So, you get $1 back!
Adding Money
- How to Add Money:
Just like adding regular numbers! - Example:
If you have $3.50 and find another $2.25:- Step 1: Add the dollars: 3 + 2 = 5 dollars.
- Step 2: Add the cents: 50 cents + 25 cents = 75 cents.
- Final Total: $5.75
Counting Bills
- How to Count Bills:
Start with the biggest bill and add the smaller bills. - Example:
If you have:- 1 $20 bill
- 2 $10 bills
- 3 $1 bills
- Step 1: Start with the $20 bill: $20.
- Step 2: Add the two $10 bills: $20 + $10 + $10 = $40.
- Step 3: Add the three $1 bills: $40 + $1 + $1 + $1 = $43.
