What is Capitalazation

What is Capitalization?
Capitalization means using a capital (big) letter at the beginning of certain words. This helps show that the word is special or important.

When Do We Use Capitalization?

  1. Names
We always capitalize the first letter of someone’s name. This helps us show that it’s a person’s name.
    • Example:
      • “My friend’s name is Anna.”
      • “I met John yesterday.”

Capitalization – Names

  • How to Capitalize Names:
Always start names with a capital letter. If it’s the first name, last name, or even a name of a pet, it should be capitalized.
  • Examples:
    • “This is my dog, Max.”
    • “I read a book by Dr. Seuss.”

Capitalization – Months of the Year

  • Months
The names of months should always begin with a capital letter. This shows that they are important words.
  • Examples:
    • “My birthday is in July.”
    • “We have a vacation in December.”

Capitalization – Languages

  • Languages
When talking about languages, always capitalize the name of the language. Languages are always important, so they start with big letters!
  • Examples:
    • “I am learning Spanish.”
    • “She speaks English and French.”

Capitalization – Cities

  • Cities
The names of cities (and countries) always start with a capital letter. This shows they are special places.
  • Examples:
    • “I live in New York.”
    • “We visited Paris last summer.”

Capitalization – Review

  • Reviewing Capitalization Rules:
Let’s practice what we’ve learned! Remember to use capital letters for names, months, languages, and cities. Capital letters are always used at the start of these words.
  • Examples:
    • “My cousin Emily is visiting us in April.”
    • “We are going to Rome to learn Italian.”
